WHY DO PEOPLE MISS GOD’S VOICE?

ree

There’s a hunger in the Body of Christ right now and a real desire to hear God clearly. I meet people every week who say, “Pastor Q, I’m praying… I’m reading… but I still don’t know if it’s God or just me.”

Let’s look at the first two ways I provided in the video of how we can discern the voice of God and hear him clearly:

1. Scripture — God Speaks Through His Written Word

One of the clearest and most consistent ways God speaks is through His Word. The Bible is not just ink on paper. It is alive. It cuts, it guides, it convicts, it comforts, and it reveals.

2. Prayer — Not Just Talking… Listening

Prayer is not a monologue. Prayer is a conversation. Yes, we share our hearts with God, but we also must quiet ourselves long enough to hear His.

So Why Do People Still Miss God’s Voice?

Distractions!

We live in a world overflowing with noise. Notifications constantly buzzing. Social media scrolling. Endless tasks. Internal worries. Mental clutter. Emotional chaos.

And here’s the truth I need you to catch: God is speaking, but many of us can’t hear Him because something else is louder.

God doesn’t compete with noise. He doesn’t shout over chaos. He speaks, but we must create the environment to hear.

Distractions don’t just steal your time… they steal your sensitivity.

They pull your attention away from what matters. They drown out the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Learning to Limit Distractions

If you want to hear God clearly, you must be intentional about eliminating noise. In my book, 40, the very first chapter is dedicated to Preparation—because positioning your heart, mind, and environment matters.

I encourage you to follow the steps below as well as the practical steps outlined in my book:

• Put your phone in another room during prayer.

Give God uninterrupted time.

• Create a Scripture routine.

Consistency trains your spirit to recognize His voice.

• Start your day with God before you start your day with people.

Don’t check in with the world before you check in with the One who created it.

• Practice silence.

Sit in stillness for 2–5 minutes. It retrains your mind to calm down.

• Set boundaries around your soul.

Noise is everywhere, but you choose what enters your spirit.

Most people miss God not because He isn’t speaking—but because they’re surrounded by too much noise to hear Him.

When you limit distractions, your spiritual clarity increases. When you quiet your environment, you’ll find that God has been speaking all along, you just finally created space to listen.

Your Next Step

If this message spoke to you, I want to challenge you this week to be intentional about creating space for God’s voice. Choose one distraction you’re going to limit—just one—and commit to giving God your full attention.

“This week, I’m turning down the noise by limiting my evening shows. I am a morning person (yes, I wake up singing; which I know annoys some. But in the evening as the sun fades I find myself missing out on my quiet meditations before bed. So, I will be more intentional with removing distractions early enough before bed so I can practice my nighttime quietness before Him. Thank you man of God.”
