How to Hear God Clearly When Your Feelings Are Loud

ree

Family,

Every believer has moments where they wonder, “Did I hear God, or was that just me?”

In my “How to Hear God’s Voice Clearly” video, I mentioned several ways God speaks, but two of them are often misunderstood: circumstances and people. Not because they are unreliable, but because our emotions can easily distort them. Here is how to discern His voice without confusing it with your feelings.

1. God Speaks Through Circumstances When You’re Positioned to Notice

The deeper your relationship with God grows, the easier it becomes to recognize His character above your emotions. Closeness with God brings clarity. Circumstances do not suddenly become holy; your awareness does. When you are grounded in Scripture and prayer, what once felt random starts to feel intentional.

Ask yourself:

• Does this line up with Scripture?

• Does it lead me toward obedience?

• Do I sense peace instead of pressure?

• Did I seek God before interpreting it?

Circumstances confirm what God is already stirring. They are not meant to lead you. Your emotions shift quickly, but God’s leading does not.

2. God Speaks Through People, But Not Every Voice Carries His Breath

I tend to avoid the phrase “God told me to tell you,” because it has been misused far too often. That is why wisdom is essential. God absolutely uses people intentionally and precisely. But remember that God uses people to confirm His voice, not replace it.

Before receiving a word, ask:

• Is this consistent with what God has already been showing me?

• Is this person spiritually grounded?

• Does this align with Scripture?

• Does this bring clarity instead of confusion?

Community is valuable, but God is still your Shepherd.

How Do You Know It Is Really Him?

The more time you spend with God, the easier it becomes to distinguish His voice from the noise around you and inside you. His voice carries peace and consistency. Your emotions carry urgency and pressure. His voice aligns with Scripture. Your feelings align with what you want in the moment. Discernment grows through consistency in the Word, prayer, worship, fasting, and community.
