Progressive Change
Devotional:
“As they went, they were cleansed.”
Luke 17:14 (HCSB)
As Jesus approached a village, ten lepers met Him from a distance and cried out for mercy. Jesus did not heal them on the spot. Instead, He gave them a command, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” All ten turned and walked away in faith, trusting His word. And as they went, they were cleansed.”
Sometimes healing and change happens as we are in motion. The miracle unfolded as they took steps forward. Their obedience was a crucial part of the process. This is the power of one step forward.
At times, God moves suddenly. But more often, transformation happens progressively. As you take purposeful steps of obedience, you begin to notice small changes. Clarity replaces confusion, strength replaces weakness, and hope replaces despair. Along the way, you learn lessons, gain confidence, and grow through the process.
For the lepers, seeing their bodies restored as they walked must have strengthened them for the rest of the journey. Especially the required walk to the priest, where their healing would be confirmed. Each step reinforced their faith. Yet only one returned to Jesus to give thanks. And in returning, he received more than physical cleansing. He received wholeness—spiritual healing that went deeper than the surface.
This story reminds us that obedience moves us forward, and gratitude brings us back to Jesus. One step forward can change your condition. One step toward Christ can transform your heart.
Reflect
In what way is God calling me to obey first and trust Him to bring change along the way?
One Step Forward
Take one intentional step of obedience today, even if you don’t yet see the outcome. As you move forward, pause and thank God for what He is already doing in your life (seen and unseen).
