Past Victories
Devotional:
“But the LORD said to Moses, ‘Do not fear him, for I have handed him over to you along with his whole army and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.’ ”
Numbers 21:34 (HCSB)
Fear is one of the primary reasons people hesitate to take the next step. The Lord told Moses not to fear because He knew the size of the giant standing ahead of him. King Og was a member of the Rephaim (Deuteronomy 3:2), a race known for their strength and intimidating presence. He represented an obstacle that naturally stirred fear.
But Moses was warned not to approach this challenge with a fearful heart. The God of the whole universe was on his side. God reassured Moses that King Og, his people, and his land had already been handed over. So all Moses had to do was move forward in obedience.
Often, the courage we need to take the next step comes from remembering past victories. God pointed Moses back to Israel’s earlier triumph over the powerful Amorites. In the same way, we all face metaphorical giants. When you find yourself up against one, recall your past victories in Christ. The same God who brought victory before is fully able to prevail again.
Do not be afraid.
Reflect:
What past victory has God already given me that I need to remember as I face my current challenge?
One Step Forward:
Write down one past victory God has already brought you through. Thank Him for it, and declare in prayer:
“The same God who helped me then will help me now.”
