Show Up Again
Devotional:
“Early on the seventh day, they started at dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same way. That was the only day they marched around the city seven times.”
Joshua 6:15 (HCSB)
Following God requires a willingness to obey even when it feels repetitive, awkward, or meaningless. On the other side of Jericho’s fortified walls stood a strong king and mighty men of valor. God already knew exactly what Israel was up against. Their victory would not come through their own strategy or strength but through obedience. This included the command to march around the wall seven times on the seventh day. In God’s perfect timing, the walls fell flat before them.
Joshua 6:16 says, “And the seventh time it happened…” Those words remind us of the importance of perseverance. When we don’t see change after circling a situation in prayer a few times, we often assume nothing is happening. But what if your breakthrough is waiting on the next lap? Or perhaps the seven-hundredth? Persistence says, “However long it takes, am I willing to take one step at a time in obedience to God?”
Reflect:
Where have I stopped circling something God told me to keep praying for?
One Step Forward:
Return to something (a prayer, a dream, or an assignment, etc.) you put down too early.
