Persistant Faith Prevails

Devotional:

“Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.”

Luke 18:1 (NKJV)

Jesus knew discouraging seasons would come, which is why He begins this parable with a clear purpose: “that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.” He tells the story of a widow who was being treated unfairly. A woman with no power, no advocate, and no earthly leverage, yet she possessed the key to change. Persistence.

This widow positioned herself to receive vindication, justice, and protection. Jesus uses her story to teach us something essential to our walk with Him. Persistent prayer keeps your heart aligned with God when everything around you says quit. You can rely on God’s character, even when circumstances seem unchanged. If you stop prematurely, you will miss the fruit that only persistent faith can produce: God’s favor, God’s timing, and God’s results.

Jesus ends the parable with a probing question, framed for self-examination, “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)

In other words, will he find people who don’t quit? People who have faith keep praying, keep believing, and keep standing when quitting seems like an easier option. God always answers His children. But if we give up, we step out of the place where the answer arrives. So don’t quit.

Reflect:

Where am I most tempted to lose heart? What would it look like to remain in position

with God instead of quitting?

One Step Forward:

Identify and write down one area you will commit to persist in prayer during this time of

fasting.
